Multi-layer co-extrusion barrier film refers to the use of three or more extrusion screws to melt and extrude resin raw materials with different functions, such as polyethylene, polypropylene, nylon, ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer, etc., and then converge at the multi-layer co-extrusion die head through their respective flow channels. After blowing or casting, the film is cooled and compounded together to obtain a multi-layer co- extrusion film. This method combines and designs the advantages of different resins to produce films with comprehensive performance and meet different packaging needs.
Characteristics of multi-layer co-extruded barrier film:
Advantages of concentrating multiple materials: The multi-layer co extruded barrier film structure can combine materials with different properties according to needs, making it have multiple properties at the same time. For example, for heat sealing and packaging machinery, if the film needs to have good mechanical processing performance, MDPE or HDPE materials are used in multi-layer structures to improve the strength and stiffness of the film, ensuring good mechanical processing performance. On the other hand, metallocene polyethylene materials with good heat sealing performance are used in the inner layer to make the film have good heat sealing performance and mechanical performance, better meeting packaging needs. In order to meet different barrier needs, You can choose PA, EVOH, etc. to meet different barrier requirements of the film.
Cost control: The multi-layer co-extrusion barrier film technology is a one-step forming process for multi-layer co-extrusion, which does not require traditional post-processing processes such as composite and coating. It can effectively reduce raw material costs and production processes, not only saving production costs, but also achieving the feasibility of thinning in film thickness control.

Structural Design of Multilayer Co extruded Flexible Films:
The structures of multi-layer co extruded films can be divided into two categories, namely symmetric structures (A/B/A) and asymmetric structures (A/B/C).
The structural layer of a multi-layer co extruded barrier film consists of three types of functional layers: barrier layer, adhesive layer, and support layer.
Barrier layer: The barrier layer has functions such as oxygen resistance, moisture resistance, and oil leakage prevention. By controlling the material and thickness of the barrier layer, the barrier performance of the film material is adjusted to meet different packaging needs (commonly used barrier materials in the market include PA, EVOH, etc.). Various barrier materials can be applied separately to form high and medium barrier series packaging films, while the sandwich structure formed by the combination of PA and EVOH has high barrier performance.
Adhesive layer: The function of the bonding layer is to bond the barrier layer and the support layer to ensure interlayer peeling force. The selection of the bonding layer material and thickness is generally determined by the material of the support layer and barrier layer, as well as the required bonding strength.
Support layer: Generally, the structural materials have two support layers, the inner layer is used for heat sealing, called heat sealing layer, and the outer layer is directly used as the outer layer of packaging film or for printing to become a printing layer. The support layer requires good mechanical strength, heat sealing performance, water vapor resistance, transparency, and printability. The commonly used materials for this layer are LDPE or LDPE/LLDPE or PA materials.
